nothing special about omaha steaks , except for the fact that they are packed in omaha. I have worked at meat packing plant and i can tell you that to get the best steak, what matters are four things;breed, age of steer, fat content, cut.
You dont need to order by mail, look for a local butchers, they will cut the meat to specifications and will sugest the tenderest cuts. Restaurants get their meats direct from the meat packers , the meat is prepared to specified cut, breed, and sometimes marinade.

    from meat packing companies
yes Omaha delivers frozen meats to some of the finest restaurants..and some of the finest cuts..
Yes I have had them delivered to me,, and blah,, they are good but not worth it,..there is another company called Schwan’s (?)
but your butcher can fix you up as well..

My husband works for a restaurant food supply company and normally they only sell to restaurants and business, but you can try giving a few a call and see if they will sell to you. It is usually in bulk, but it is excellent quality and usually cheaper than anywhere I have seen. As for Omaha Steaks I think they are over priced and average tasting.

Many restaurants get their meats from places like Costco, which were originally opened to serve business needs. These places have excellent meat and very high food safety standards (see link below).

One big advantage is that the chef can buy large primal cuts (rib-eye, new york steak, etc) and portion/trim it himself, to his requirements. The cost is also significantly less that standard retail.

I’ve had Omaha Steaks, and they are absolutely not worth the price they charge.

Pass on the Omaha steaks…not worth the high price..you can get much better steaks for a lot less at a local butcher

restaurants also get their meats from food service vendors which are companies that deal with large quantities of all kinds of foods and supplies restaurants use and need. Omaha Steaks are average.
